Dori Leyko, Acting Superintendent since January, has been formally hired as the permanent Superintendent for the East Lansing Public Schools.
Leyko stepped into the acting position after former Superintendent Robyne Thompson resigned. Before that, she was the Director of Curriculum for the District. She has served in both roles for more than six months.
Previously, she was principal of Marble Elementary School.
The motion to approve the contract was passed unanimously. It gives Leyko a salary of $145,000 for the 2017-2018 school year. That salary will increase each year as long as Leyko receives an annual review of “effective” or “highly effective.”
Leyko is currently interviewing candidates to replace her as Director of Curriculum and expects to have the position filled by July 10.
There was no public or Board comment before Leyko’s contract was approved but all Board members present at the special meeting applauded following the vote. Trustee Erin Graham was absent.
“We will welcome you as of July 1 to your new responsibilities. We are delighted to have you,” said Board President Nell Kuhnmuench.
