Annual Pancakes in the Park Set for June 12th Hosted by East Lansing Rotary Club

On Saturday, June 12,  the East Lansing Rotary Club presents Pancakes in the Park. Pancake breakfasts will be served from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm. Breakfast includes pancakes (plain or blueberry), sausage, cinnamon apple slices, juice and coffee. Tickets are $5 per person and kids five and under eat free.

The Rotary Club of East Lansing puts on this family event each year to raise funds to benefit community projects. Funds from last year’s Pancakes in the Park were used in the following ways:

  • The Weekend Survivor Kit Program coordinated by Many Hands Foundation
  • The Okemos Band Boosters for new uniforms
  • Helping Hands Respite Care to support a Music Therapy program
  • Donley Elementary School received funds for books for their library
  • Parkwood YMCA for Summer Camp Scholarships
  • East Lansing High School for their after Prom Party
  • Funds for the East Lansing Library for the Literacy Program
  • Support for the new East Lansing Pickle Ball Court at Patriarche Park
  • Support for Beekman Therapeutic Riding Center
  • A contribution to East Lansing Parks and Recreation for the Art and Ceramic Studio at the Hannah Community Center

This year East Lansing Rotarian John Stauffer has encouraged his fellow Rotarians to donate any of their unsold tickets to Helping Hands Respite Care, an organization that helps families with a child or young adult with disabilities, and families with a senior suffering from age-related conditions.

“The idea is to be able to offer local families who need some respite from their normal routine access to a delicious breakfast and the opportunity to enjoy the handicap accessible play space,” he says. Stauffer is the Executive Director of Helping Hands Respite Care, and serves as the chairperson of Youth Initiatives Committee.

“We are very excited about this year’s event,” said Gary Danbrook, Pancakes in the Park Chairperson. “We have instituted some new ideas like placemats with ads from local community supporters, and we are putting more energy and resources into promoting the event with the hopes of seeing more people attend.”

In addition to Danbrook as Chairperson, this year’s Pancakes in the Park Committee includes Daria Buzun, Nancy Marr, Josh Clayton, Jim Little, Jim Folkening and Omero Iung. Pancakes in the Park has been a project of East Lansing Rotary Club for decades. To learn more about the East Lansing Rotary Club go to www.eastlansingrotaryclub.com

The breakfast is served in Patriarche Park’s pavilion, and will occur rain or shine. After breakfast, kids may want to check out the Park’s play space, which was completed and re-dedicated in August of 2014, and features safe, eco-friendly equipment and design. It’s also completely accessible, and features a clean, cushioned surface.

Patriarche Park is located at 1100 Alton Street, across the street from St. Thomas Aquinas Church.
