East Lansing High School is presenting “Legally Blonde, the Musical” as its spring musical beginning on Wednesday, March 16, at 7pm, and continuing on: Thursday, March 17, at 7pm; Friday, March 18, at 7:30pm; Saturday, March 19, at 7:30pm; and Sunday, March 20, at 2pm. All performances will be at the ELHS Center for Performing Arts, 509 Burcham Drive, East Lansing.
The performance dates had to be changed and reduced because of snow days that prevented rehearsals. The show, originally slotted for seven performances, will now run for five.
Over 125 singers, dancers, actors, student technicians, and musicians plus two directors “are pulling together and working really hard” to make up for the time lost to snow days according to parent Jill Canny, who acts as Parent Volunteer Coordinator for the production. The show tells the story of Elle Woods, a first-year law student at Harvard Law School, who finds success after overcoming stereotypes and snobbery.
Canny explains that because of the snow days, the students and directors “have had weekend rehearsals and…long rehearsals all [last] week.” The pit orchestra, under the direction of Dave Larzelere, has been rehearsing with the cast “and they sound great.” The final cog in the production, the crew, “has put in long hours getting lighting, staging [and other technical aspects of the production] ready.”
Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students, except on Wednesday and Thursday, when all seats are $5. Show information and tickets are available at www.facebook.com/ELHSTheatreDepartment. Tickets also available at the door.
