Canadian National, the railway company that owns the track that runs through East Lansing’s Amtrak station and the MSU campus, has announced that the Harrison Road and Hagadorn Road railroad crossings will be closed a week longer than expected.
Both crossings are now expected to be closed through next Friday, July 29.
According to a press release issued this afternoon by the City of East Lansing, as for Harrison Road, “The extended closure is necessary to accommodate the ongoing reconstruction of the crossing. The original estimated completion date was this Friday, July 22.”
The City’s release made no mention of the Hagadorn Road closure. When I called the City’s Department of Public Works to ask about that, they explained that Hagadorn Road is owned by Ingham County’s Road Department, which is why their release did not mention it.
A call to Ingham County’s Road Department resulted in confirmation that the Hagadorn Road crossing will also be closed on the same schedule, according to a press release they received from Canadian National.
Whose idea was it to close both at once, forcing traffic to build up at the Farm Lane underpass? We answered that question for you last week. Read more.
