There is less than a week remaining to file a nominating petition for Board of Education, and candidates have begun making their presence known on social media.

All candidates must file with the East Lansing City Clerk by 4 p.m. Tuesday July 26 for one of the three seats up for election this November. They need to submit a petition of at least 40 signatures, or pay a filing fee of $100.

Up for re-election are Trustees Kath Edsall, Hillary Henderson and Erin Graham. Edsall is the only one who has announced that she will be running for re-election.

Also announcing their candidacies are Michael Conlin, Kyle Guerrant, Nichole Martin and Sean Williams.

Conlin is professor of economics at Michigan State University. His research focuses on the finance of education. He has three children in East Lansing schools.

Edsall is a practicing veterinarian at the Capitol Area Humane Society. Herfamily consists of her wife of 7 weeks and 8 children, five of whom will be enrolled in ELPS this fall and three who went to ELPS for their entire careers and completed high school during the last five years

Guerrant is the deputy superintendent of administrative services at the Michigan Department of Education. He has three children in the East Lansing school system
