Curbside Storm Debris Collection in East Lansing

"EAST LANSING, Mich. – The East Lansing Department of Public Works (DPW) will begin free curbside collection of storm debris from residents’ yards on Monday, July 11.

Larger Storm Debris
Residents with larger downed branches and limbs in their yards can place them curbside as is; residents are not expected to cut limbs/branches in half or bundle them. The City-wide curbside collection of larger storm debris could take several weeks to complete, so patience is appreciated. Please try to place larger storm debris at the curb as soon as possible.

Smaller Storm Debris
In an effort to help residents clean up the smaller storm debris in their yards, the City of East Lansing will also be offering a no-fee yard waste collection day on Monday, July 11. Residents can place loose yard waste material (i.e. twigs, leaves, plant material, small branches) at the curb without advanced collection requests or the use of City yard waste bags or stickers. Loose yard waste should be contained in bags (no more than 40 pounds each) or rigid plastic containers (no larger than 32 gallons each).

Residents are asked not to place or rake storm debris onto sidewalks or into streets.

Residents should use caution when cleaning up their yards and may want to consider hiring a professional to clear larger branches and unstable/downed trees. It is the responsibility of residents to have unstable/downed trees removed from their private property. Residents should also stay at least 25 feet away from any downed power lines in their yards and report them to their utility company.

Community members with questions can call the East Lansing Department of Public Works during weekday office hours, 8 a.m.-5 p.m., at (517) 337-9459."
